Global icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan brought Indian couture to the international spotlight as she walked the runway for designer Manish Malhotra at Paris Fashion Week 2025. Her striking look reimagined the traditional Indian sherwani through an androgynous, couture lens, blending heritage with modern power dressing.
The custom-made sherwani was a dramatic fusion of structure and softness-tailored to assert authority while carrying a refined sensuality. The showstopper feature was its 10-inch diamond-embroidered cuffs, which transformed the sleeves into emblems of regality, described by Malhotra as “part armor, part adornment.”
At the back, layered diamond scallops cascaded like an extravagant necklace, evoking the opulence of a nau lakha haar. A singular diamond tassel drop anchored the look with subtle yet striking precision, while diamond-studded animal brooches added symbolic strength, serving as contemporary talismans of grace.
The sherwani also carried a bandhgalā-inspired neckline, padded shoulders, front and side slits, and diamond-studded buttons, paired with embroidered flared trousers that elevated movement into an art form.
Completing the look, Aishwarya kept her styling understated yet powerful: soft waves, bold red lips, feathered brows, and delicate diamond jewellery that let the couture silhouette shine. Sharing glimpses of the outfit on Instagram, Manish Malhotra wrote that the ensemble reflects a dialogue “where structure meets softness, power meets sensuality, and tradition transforms into global relevance.”
