
Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially released the trailer for his much-awaited film, The Bengal Files. The launch coincided with Direct Action Day, August 16, making the unveiling even more symbolic. The film is being described as the final installment of Agnihotri’s “Files” trilogy and is scheduled for a worldwide release on September 5, 2025.
The trailer offers the first look at the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings, one of the darkest chapters in Bengal’s history. With haunting visuals, fiery dialogues, and emotionally charged sequences, The Bengal Files seeks to shed light on the communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumaar.
Anupam Kher’s portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi has already generated buzz. The veteran actor shared that he underwent significant preparations, including weight loss and dietary changes, to embody the role. Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi bring depth to characters caught in the storm of history, while Darshan Kumaar adds to the film’s emotional intensity.
