In a ground breaking move for Indian cinema on the global stage, Women in Film (WIF) India, backed by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B), Government of India, has announced the country’s first all-women delegation to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2025), scheduled from September 4-9, 2025.
The initiative is facilitated by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and supported by Waves Bazaar, the Ministry’s flagship international markets platform. With a growing presence at major global festivals and a standalone market planned during TIFF 2025, Waves Bazaar continues to strengthen India’s role in the global creative and film economy.
Six Indian Women Filmmakers Selected for TIFF 2025
From more than 200 applications nationwide, six projects led by women directors and writers were selected to represent India at TIFF 2025. The winning entries came from across the country-including Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, and Chandigarh.
The chosen filmmakers are:
- Arshaly Jose (A Dandelion’s Dream)
- Deepa Bhatia (Rabbit Hole)
- Katyayani Kumar (Sons of The River)
- Madhumita Sundararaman (The Guest House)
- Paromita Dhar (Ulta)
- Pramati Anand (A Late Autumn Dream)
The final selection was made by an international jury of cultural leaders, producers, and industry experts, with collective experience across Academy Award-winning films, global film markets, and women’s advocacy in cinema.
The programme is being coordinated with Product of Culture (U.S.), which earlier partnered with WIF India for its Cannes showcase. Continued mentorship will be offered by WIF India, WIF LA, Academy Award-winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, and the jury panel.
This ensures that the selected projects and filmmakers gain sustained international visibility, positioning Indian women storytellers as strong voices in the global film industry.
