Actress Shweta Tripathi has officially begun shooting for the much-anticipated Mirzapur: The Movie, stepping back into her iconic role as Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta. The film marks the big-screen debut of the beloved character, previously seen in the hit web series Mirzapur, and signals a new chapter in the franchise’s evolution.
Tripathi, who has portrayed Golu across multiple seasons of the series, expressed deep emotional resonance as she returned to the sets in Banaras – a city she considers her second home. “Golu is not just a character for me, she has been a companion, a part of my life for so many years,” she said. “To see her journey unfold on the big screen is overwhelming and surreal.”
The actress also reflected on her personal connection to Banaras, citing it as the backdrop for several career milestones including Masaan, Escape Live, Kalkoot, and the earlier seasons of Mirzapur. She credited the city’s people, culture, and her trainer Tridev Pandey – whom she affectionately calls a brother – for making each return special.
With production underway, Mirzapur: The Movie is expected to continue the gritty legacy of the franchise while offering fans a deeper look into Golu Gupta’s evolution. Enthusiasts of the series are eagerly awaiting how the cinematic format will expand the narrative and bring new dimensions to the cult-favorite character.
