Director Ashwin Kumar’s animated spectacle Mahavatar Narsimha, part of the celebrated Mahavatar series, is set for its digital journey after a stellar box office performance. The film, centered on Lord Vishnu’s fourth incarnation – Narsimha, the half-man, half-lion deity-has become one of the most successful Indian animated features of the year.
Released earlier this year, the film completed 50 successful days in theatres, drawing families, children, and mythology lovers alike. It proved that animated storytelling rooted in Indian culture can pull audiences in large numbers, a rare feat in the domestic box office landscape.
The narrative retells the timeless legend of Hiranyakashipu, the demon king who declared himself invincible, and his son Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. When Hiranyakashipu’s tyranny reached its peak, Vishnu appeared in his fierce Narsimha avatar—emerging from a pillar to slay the king at twilight, neither inside nor outside, neither by human nor beast.
The film’s breathtaking battle sequences, high-quality animation, and emotional father-son arc brought this ancient tale to life with a mix of reverence and cinematic grandeur.
Mahavatar Narsimha has also become a milestone for Indian animation, showcasing that large-scale mythological storytelling in this format can achieve both commercial success and critical appreciation. With strong visuals and spiritual themes, the film bridges the gap between tradition and modern cinematic technique.
After its theatrical success, Mahavatar Narsimha will now stream on Netflix India from September 19, 2025. The film will be available in five Indian languages- Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam- with subtitles to cater to audiences worldwide. This digital release is expected to further boost its reach, making the divine saga accessible to viewers across borders.
