Actor Vishal Jethwa is celebrating a career-defining moment as his latest film, Homebound, has been chosen as India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. Known for his impactful roles and range as a performer, Jethwa said the news feels “absolutely surreal.”
Sharing his emotions, Jethwa expressed,
“This is the kind of news every actor dreams of. To know that Homebound will represent India on the world’s biggest cinematic stage is beyond anything I imagined. I’m grateful to director Neeraj Ghaywan for trusting me with a role that not only challenged me as an artist but also changed me as a person. Working with Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor was equally special—they weren’t just co-actors but true collaborators who made every moment meaningful.”
He added that this recognition is not just about him but a reflection of the team’s passion and hard work, calling it a proud moment for Indian storytelling on a global platform.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound has already made waves at international film festivals for its emotional depth and gripping performances. The story follows two childhood friends from a North Indian village who dream of becoming policemen. But as they inch closer to their goal, desperation and personal conflicts begin to test the very foundation of their friendship.
The film, produced by Dharma Productions, features Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa in lead roles. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 26, 2025, even as it begins its Oscar campaign journey.
With this selection, Homebound carries India’s hopes of clinching another historic win at the Academy Awards.
