Hazra Park Durgotsab, one of South Kolkata’s most celebrated Durga Puja events, inaugurated its 83rd edition with grandeur, unveiling Kolkata’s tallest 30-foot Durga idol. This year’s theme, “Drishtikon”, brings together imagination, tradition, and philosophy through the powerful language of colour.
The inauguration was attended by eminent dignitaries, including Janab Firhad Bobby Hakim, Hon’ble Mayor of Kolkata; Sri Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Minister of Agriculture, Government of West Bengal; and Sri Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary of the Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, along with several other notable personalities.

Conceptualized by renowned artist Biman Saha, this year’s theme “Drishtikon” encourages visitors to experience colour not just as a visual element but as a medium of self-expression. Every shade in the pandal and on the goddess’s attire represents fragments of human thought, emotion, and philosophy, making the festival both visually stunning and intellectually inspiring.
Speaking to the media, Sri Sayan Deb Chatterjee said, “Colour is not just an ornament to the world – it is its heartbeat. Every shade carries an emotion: the warmth of love, the fire of protest, the courage of conviction, the glow of hope. With ‘Drishtikon’, we want people to look beyond the obvious, to see how colour shapes not just the Goddess’s form but our very way of thinking. Every shade tells a story, and this year, we invite everyone to be part of that story. The 30-foot Durga idol will offer visitors a breathtaking sight and an unforgettable experience.”

The colossal idol, adorned in a vibrant palette, stands as Kolkata’s tallest Durga figure, symbolizing the festival’s commitment to grandeur, creativity, and devotion. Hazra Park Durgotsab 2025 is open to visitors from today, promising a unique fusion of cultural tradition and contemporary artistry, where every corner of the pandal tells a story through colour and design.
Families, devotees, and art enthusiasts are encouraged to visit and immerse themselves in a festival that celebrates not just the divine but also the human imagination and artistic spirit.
