The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing governance and operational concerns.
The decision was announced after the ICC Board’s review of USA Cricket’s compliance with membership criteria. The suspension means the American body will not be entitled to ICC funding and will be barred from participating in ICC events until the issues are resolved.
This development comes after repeated warnings to USA Cricket regarding financial irregularities, governance lapses, and failure to meet key obligations as an ICC member.
The ICC has stated that USA Cricket must implement corrective measures and demonstrate compliance with its membership requirements before reinstatement can be considered.
USA Cricket, which has been working to popularise the sport in North America, had earlier faced administrative and financial troubles, raising concerns about its ability to manage the game’s growth in the region.
The suspension is a major setback for cricket’s expansion plans in the United States, especially with the country co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this year.
