Namibia, Zimbabwe Seal Qualification for 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup

Namibia and Zimbabwe have secured their tickets to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after decisive victories in the semi-finals of the Africa Regional Final in Harare. Both nations will represent Africa at next year’s global event, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Namibia cruise past Tanzania

Namibia became the first team to confirm qualification with a commanding win over Tanzania. Batting first, Namibia posted a strong total, powered by an all-round effort from JJ Smit, who played a crucial knock and later picked up key wickets. Tanzania faltered in reply, falling well short of the target as Namibia wrapped up a 63-run victory. This marks Namibia’s fourth consecutive appearance at the T20 World Cup, underlining their consistency on the international stage.

Zimbabwe delight home fans

In the second semi-final, hosts Zimbabwe put on a polished display against Kenya. Their bowlers kept the Kenyan side in check before the batters comfortably chased down the target with seven wickets in hand. The result confirmed Zimbabwe’s return to the T20 World Cup, much to the delight of home supporters, who have witnessed a resurgence in Zimbabwean cricket in recent years.

The Africa Regional Final offered two qualifying spots, both of which have now been claimed. Namibia and Zimbabwe will join the expanding pool of teams preparing for the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled for February–March across India and Sri Lanka. Sixteen nations are already confirmed, with more places to be filled through regional competitions in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and East Asia-Pacific.

For Namibia, qualification reaffirms their reputation as one of the most consistent Associate members in recent years. For Zimbabwe, the result is a confidence boost as they look to translate regional dominance into strong global performances. With stars like Sikandar Raza in their ranks, Zimbabwe will hope to make a significant impact in the tournament.

The successful campaigns of both sides highlight Africa’s growing influence in world cricket and set the stage for what promises to be an exciting World Cup in 2026.
